Lily Allen reacted to her ex-husband David Harbour's comments about her breakup album titled West End Girl, which details the collapse of their marriage. This album narrates Allen's personal and emotional experiences, and Harbour had described it as "strange."
David Harbour's Comments
David Harbour, the famous actor from the series Stranger Things, stated in an interview last June that while he "respects Lily's right to talk about her relationship in music," he does not feel he has had a "similar experience." He also mentioned the importance of his privacy, stating that he does not want to discuss the details of his personal life.
Lily Allen's Response
Months later, Lily responded to these comments in an interview with The Cut, describing Harbour's opinion as "generous." She said, "It was a generosity on his part. He is currently having real successes. He has been nominated for an Emmy, and that’s amazing. We are all doing our thing, and what I know about David is that he is an incredible actor."
The day after this interview was published, David Harbour received the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Anthology for his role in the series DTF St. Louis.
Lily addresses issues such as infidelity and emotional manipulation in her album, which seems to narrate her breakup story with David. She had previously emphasized that her 14-track album includes "a mix of reality and fiction" and that fans should not take the lyrics as absolute truth.
In particular, in the song Madeline, Lily refers to David and accuses him of having a three-year relationship with a young fashion designer. In the song Tennis, she uses the sport of tennis as a metaphor for emotional relationships.
Lily and David married in Las Vegas in 2020 but legally separated in early 2025. The album West End Girl explores the emotional consequences of this separation.
