A 48-year-old British man in Spain lost his life when he attempted to cross a flooded stream in his Volvo. The incident occurred last night in Olivella, near the coastal resort of Sitges, and details have gradually emerged.

Eyewitnesses reported that the man was severely affected by the rushing water while trying to cross the stream, and his vehicle was quickly swept away. Local authorities confirmed that the stream is usually dry, but under exceptional conditions, it can fill with water. One official stated, "The amount of water that accumulated in the stream last night was very unusual. Normally, this stream is not considered dangerous."

A call for help was made to the fire department by a witness around 11 PM. Initially, a report indicated a woman was missing, but after investigations, it was confirmed that it was the British man traveling alone. Firefighters found his body about 500 meters from the vehicle at 2:25 AM after hours of searching.

This incident occurred as northeastern Spain was affected by heavy rains and flash floods. The Spanish National Meteorological Agency had issued serious warnings about heavy rainfall across eastern regions, including Barcelona. These rains caused travel disruptions and flight cancellations in the Catalonia and Valencia areas.
In Barcelona, many metro stations were closed, and bus services were rerouted.
