Vue Cinemas, one of the largest cinema chains in Europe, is considering a public offering worth £1.5 billion on the London Stock Exchange. This move comes after a successful summer and record-breaking cinema ticket sales, as well as following six years of severe challenges for the cinema industry.

Growing Cinema Trend

Vue's CEO, Tim Richards, spoke about the increasing successes of cinema and its return to a thriving era, stating: "Cinema has not only returned but has come back for good, and Vue is at the forefront of this change." This cinema operator currently manages 225 sites across Europe, with 94 of those located in the UK and Ireland.

After lenders took control of the company in a post-COVID rescue deal, Vue is now considering a public offering. Richards noted that it is the right time to explore exit options for investors. He referred to last year, during which the company achieved a 5.9% increase in revenues, reaching £781 million.

Impact of Stock Market Conditions

This decision is seen as a vote of confidence in the UK stock market at a time when many companies are exiting due to foreign buyouts and a lack of new listings. However, investors, including American asset manager Barings and the Farallon investment fund, seem to prefer the option of an IPO.

Currently, the market is facing a wave of buying and selling, including large purchases like easyJet and Schroders. This situation has raised concerns about a permanent decline in the UK stock market. Therefore, Vue enters this process from a strong position, emphasizing that the demand for quality cinematic experiences remains robust across all age groups.

Richards added: "If we do an IPO, I personally have faith in the country and want to list on the London Stock Exchange." He also referenced the experiences of other executives who have listed on other exchanges, stating that conditions are not always better there.

Ultimately, Vue assures its investors that it is seeking strategic options for the future and points to global records in the cinema industry by 2026. With continued year-on-year growth and an increasing market share, Vue is recognized as the largest private cinema operator in Europe.
