Young people seeking to increase pheromones are changing their hygiene habits. A wave of young men has adopted a new method called 'Pheromone Maxig' which involves refraining from showering and using deodorant to emphasize their natural scent. These men, known as 'Stinkfluencers', claim that the right smell can help attract a partner.
Experiences of Young Men
One of the videos released on this topic mentions that one user claims: 'I no longer wash my hair and now indirectly more women compliment the smell of my hair - Pheromone Maxig is the key.'
However, experts have examined these claims and believe that humans are not capable of identifying and reacting to pheromones, and there is even no evidence of their production in the human body. In this regard, Australian scientists explain in a paper that many animals communicate with pheromones, especially in mating or territory marking situations. However, this does not hold true for humans.
The Role of Personal Hygiene in Attractiveness
In this article, written by Samuel Cornell, a public health researcher at the University of Queensland, and Rob Brooks, an evolutionary biology professor at the University of New South Wales, it is noted that pheromones are chemical messengers produced in the body of one member of a species and elicit reactions in other members of the same species.
Experts also point out that based on evidence, humans have no way to identify pheromones and cannot produce them. They also note that attractiveness is not related to body odor. Fresh sweat is almost odorless, and if someone remains unwashed for a long time, sweat becomes a suitable environment for bacterial growth, leading to unpleasant odors.
Despite this, many users on social media have criticized this trend. One jokingly says: 'It seems that being in a bad smell condition can attract women.' Another adds: 'It seems that being a warning sign currently has a unique sensory experience.'
