Keri Russell appears to have blamed her husband Matthew Rhys for ignoring her during his two victory speeches in a behind-the-scenes video released from the Emmy ceremony. This awkward moment occurred after Rhys made history by becoming the first actor to win two major acting awards in different categories in one night.
Speeches Without Mentioning Russell
At the Emmy Awards held in Los Angeles, Rhys surprised many viewers by ignoring Russell in his speeches. When receiving his first award for the series "The Beast in Me," he made no mention of Russell and didn't even look at her. While his co-star Claire Denis joyfully approached him and hugged him, Rhys walked towards the stage without acknowledging his wife.

Russell, who has been in a relationship with Rhys for 12 years, gently pushed his hand away while he was trying to take a photo with a photographer in a recently released video. She then gently pulled Rhys close and kissed his cheek. This gesture led viewers to speculate that her reaction was due to being ignored in the speeches.
Rhys's Response to Criticism
After the criticism, Matthew Rhys tried to improve the situation and stated in an interview that he would not display his awards at home until Russell receives one. He said, "I hope that when Keri wins one of these awards, I can display my awards too."
Rhys also jokingly mentioned in an interview that his family had bet on which one of them would win at the Emmy ceremony. He said about himself, "This is not just a joke; it’s completely serious. I put a lot of money on myself... This week will be tough for him."
However, Russell showed that she still supports Rhys and cheered enthusiastically from her seat when he received his second award. Although Rhys again did not mention Russell in his second speech, he did acknowledge his parents and sister who were present at the ceremony.
Despite the controversy, Rhys jokingly said in his speeches, "If you try to silence me, I’ll throw this award in your face." He also praised the designer of the series "Widow's Bay," stating that his creativity is amazing.
