Major Wins for Widow's Bay
The comedy series Widow's Bay, as the biggest winner of the night, secured 14 awards, eight of which were won at last week's ceremony. This series surpassed the previous record of 13 awards set last year by The Studio, becoming the comedy with the most Emmy awards in a single season. Widow's Bay also won the Outstanding Comedy Series award, drawing significant attention to this remarkable success.
Individual Record-Breaking and Standing Ovations
Matthew Rhys, the lead actor of Widow's Bay, also made history by becoming the first actor to receive two major acting awards in different categories in one night. He took home the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series award for his role in Widow's Bay and the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie award for The Beast in Me.
During the ceremony, Jean Smart received the Lead Comedy Actress award to a standing ovation from the audience and joked that it seemed only the men were standing while the women were seated. She also thanked those who helped her behind the scenes, particularly Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statski.
Allison Janney also won the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series award for her role as U.S. President Grace Pan in The Diplomat, adding to her Emmy award count. She is now tied with Jean Smart, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Cloris Leachman, and these successes showcase her extraordinary talents.
Alongside the successes of Widow's Bay, the series The Pitt also shone that night, winning the Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama award for Noah Wyle. With 25 nominations, it had the highest number of nominations at these awards and continued its significant successes.
