Ruben Amorim, the new head coach of AC Milan, was called for emergency talks with the club's owner after his team's defeat in the Europa League against Benfica. This Portuguese coach, who previously managed Manchester United, is facing a difficult start in Italy, with his team currently sitting in sixth place in Serie A.
Amorim's Challenges at Milan
Amorim was summoned to the office of Gerry Cardinale, the owner of AC Milan, this week due to his team's poor results and his criticisms of the players. This conversation was aimed at ensuring his future at the club and emphasizing the owner's support for the head coach. Reports suggest that Cardinale is trying to reassure Amorim that despite the criticisms, he still has confidence in him.
In an interview with Sky Italia, Amorim said: "I know that at Manchester United and Milan, two big clubs with pressure to win, people expect everything to be achieved in a few months, and I feel that same pressure here." He pointed out the differences between his team at Milan compared to Manchester United, saying: "This team is a bit different; they have worked more with three defenders and are a bit faster and stronger."
Request for Patience and Hope for the Future
This coach also requested patience from the fans and club management, noting that failure is also possible, regardless of the size of the club. Amorim added: "I know it takes time, but I also know there is a lot of pressure on this club. However, I prefer this kind of work because if I am to fail one day, I want it to be a big failure."
Amorim expressed his eagerness to improve his team's situation, saying: "I have a lot of passion for this club, and I want to help it get better. I don't know if I will have enough time, but I look at my players and think they listen to everything I say in training, and that gives me hope that we can solve these problems."
Amorim was appointed as head coach of Milan in the summer after Massimiliano Allegri was dismissed, while he had been fired from Manchester United in January due to poor results.
