Alejandro Tosti, the 30-year-old Argentine golfer, faced a bizarre situation on Thursday during the first round of the Biltmore tournament in Asheville, North Carolina. While playing on the beautiful grounds of The Cliffs at Walnut Cove, his caddie, Cliff Ellis, suddenly separated from him and dropped the golf bag on the ground.
Tense Moments on the Golf Course
This incident occurred while Tosti was playing on the seventeenth hole and was even with par. It seemed he was having a good day, but suddenly his caddie decided to leave the field. In response to this situation, Tosti humorously wrote in a message: 'He couldn't keep up with my eight consecutive pars' and sent along a few laughing emojis.
Tosti's Challenging Track Record with Caddies
Alejandro Tosti is known for his fiery personality on the PGA Tour and has experienced multiple caddies in recent years. In an event in 2023, he repeatedly cursed at his caddie, Ray Yoel. Meanwhile, at the Valspar Championship, he wrote 'NEED A WIFE' on his caddie's shirt instead of his name, as if looking for love among the spectators.
Despite the sudden departure of his caddie, Tosti was able to continue playing and ultimately finished the first round with a score of one over par (1+72). Now he must move on to the second round of the tournament and is currently ranked 186th in the FedEx Cup Fall standings.
In the second round, Tosti will play with two American golfers, Luke Clanton and Spencer Oxendine, and needs to perform better in this round to increase his chances of advancing to the next stages.
While he is trying to find a new caddie, the competition remains fierce for Tosti and other golfers. At the top of the leaderboard, Irish golfer Seamus Power has surged to the top with three early birdies.
