Warren Buffett, the renowned global investor, has resigned from his position as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway and transferred this responsibility to his son Howard Buffett. This immediate change occurred, and in a letter to shareholders, the 96-year-old Buffett stated: "Time always wins. But it has been generous with me."
Power Transition After Years of Planning
This move comes nine months after Buffett handed over the CEO role to Greg Abel, his long-time right-hand man. Buffett will now hold the honorary title of Chairman Emeritus. Berkshire Hathaway also owns shares in major companies such as Apple, American Express, and Coca-Cola.
Investment Philosophy and Its Impacts
Buffett has developed a popular investment philosophy that has garnered him a loyal following. This philosophy emphasizes long-term thinking, disciplined capital allocation, and simple management. His wealth is estimated at around $145 billion (equivalent to £109 billion) according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Brian Jacobsen, chief economic strategist, reacted to Buffett's resignation, saying: "It was always a question of when, not whether this would happen. Buffett exited the stage beautifully and respectfully."
Buffett, known as the "Oracle of Omaha," will remain as a director at Berkshire Hathaway. He expressed confidence that Abel and his son Howard can lead the company. Buffett said: "Greg runs the company; Howard will preserve its culture and values - both of which are as valuable as anything on our balance sheet."
During Buffett's tenure, Berkshire Hathaway delivered nearly double the returns of the S&P 500 with an annual growth rate of 19.9%, compared to the 10.4% growth of this index.
Abel concluded by saying: "Warren's impact on Berkshire and its owners in the history of American business is unparalleled. The culture that Warren built and the values he adhered to will remain at the heart of Berkshire, and Howard will be its guardian."
