Many residents of these areas have protested due to rising housing prices and cultural changes resulting from the influx of large numbers of tourists.
Protests in Brittany and France
In the Brittany region, residents have asked tourists to return to their homes. In one village, three cars with strong anti-tourism slogans were damaged. These slogans clearly reflected the locals' dissatisfaction with the presence of Parisian travelers. Interestingly, the owners of these cars were locals who had moved to Paris.

In Mallorca, extensive protests against over-tourism were held this summer. Residents complain about rising housing prices and traffic in small towns. One protester in the town of Sóller wrote in English on a placard: 'No more second homes for foreigners while locals can't buy a house.'

In the UK, the village of Bourton-on-the-Water, famous for its natural beauty, has now become a tourist hotspot. The population of this village is less than 4,000, but during peak times, up to 10,000 tourists visit daily. Residents face issues such as traffic and congestion in the streets and long lines in shops and restaurants. A survey shows that 90 percent of Bourton residents feel that tourists have disrupted their lives.
In Barcelona, local tariffs for tourists and local discontent are also on the rise. Residents of the city have put up signs and graffiti calling for tourists to return to their homes. Some have termed this situation an 'invasion' and referred to Barcelona as 'Carcelona,' which means prison.
In the city of Venice, known as one of the main tourist destinations, residents are strongly complaining about the overcrowding and congestion caused by the influx of tourists. Streets become extremely crowded during peak seasons, turning this into a serious dilemma for residents.
