The family of Nasrat Osman, a 47-year-old British woman who was kidnapped on Friday in Blantyre, Malawi by four armed men, has made a public appeal for help. Nasrat, a mother of two young children, was working as an accountant in Malawi and had moved to the country due to her husband's job.
A terrifying moment and uncertainty about Nasrat
Shobi Jiwa, Nasrat's younger brother, described the moment of her abduction as "terrifying" and said, "Four armed men pulled her out of her car and took her away." He added, "My sister has been missing for five days and we have no signs or contact from her."
Helping the family and a call for prayers
Nasrat's husband also stated that he has no information about his wife's condition and that she had no issues with anyone. Following this incident, local authorities have offered a reward of over £12,600 for any credible information that could help rescue Nasrat.
Jiwa further urged people to pray for his sister, saying, "No one knows anything. This is the only thing that can help us right now." He described Nasrat as a "humble and beautiful" person, adding, "She is active in charitable work and has a sociable and cheerful personality. We don't understand why she was kidnapped."
Increase in similar incidents in Malawi
Jiwa also pointed out the rise in kidnappings in Malawi, stating, "This is the fourth similar case, and this is the first time a woman has been kidnapped." A friend of Nasrat wrote on social media, "Nasrat is one of the kindest and most lovable people I have ever known. She is a devoted mother and a lovely wife, and her family and friends miss her more than words can express."
The leader of the United Democratic Front, Atupele Muluzi, condemned the kidnapping and urged the Malawi police to take the investigation seriously and do everything in their power to bring Nasrat back. He also asked the public to share any information, no matter how small, with the family or the nearest police station.
British government agencies are also aware of the incident and are in contact with local authorities.
