Nasrat Osman, a 47-year-old British mother who was kidnapped in the "Mount Pleasant" area of Blantyre, Malawi, returned home after a brave rescue operation. This mother had moved from Leicester to Malawi to live with her husband, who was working in the country.
Details of the Kidnapping and Rescue Operation
Nasrat was abducted last Friday while carrying out her daily duties of taking her children to school by four armed men from her vehicle. Her brother, Shubi Jiwa, has stated that his sister was found safe after six days of being missing. He also emphasized that senior police officer Noel Kaira was injured during the rescue operation but survived.
Kaira has been praised for his bravery and dedication, and Nasrat's brother thanked him for saving his sister. He stated in an interview: "We are extremely grateful to Noel Kaira, Deputy Inspector General of Police in Malawi, who risked his life and courageously rescued our sister."
Police Response and Family Reaction
The Malawi police had set a reward of 30 million kwacha (about $25,000) for credible information regarding Nasrat's rescue and the arrest of the kidnappers. Shubi Jiwa expressed happiness about his sister's condition, saying she is "smiling" and miraculously "is not very scared."
Before Nasrat's release, her brother told the media that the incident was very frightening for their family and there had been no clues about her whereabouts. Nasrat's husband also stated in an interview that he was unaware of his wife's situation and had no issues with anyone.
