The Old Court in Linton was established as a police station in September 1855 and is now one of the standout features of this property. One famous case involved "Robert Swan" in 1865, who was sentenced to three months of hard labor for attacking his mother with a pitchfork. Additionally, "Eugene Stamp", a teacher who threw a stone at a train, was sentenced to 14 days in jail in this building.
The property was purchased by the current owners in 1993, and they have worked to preserve many of its original features. It now boasts over 4,000 square feet of space, including two kitchens, a large lobby, a courtroom, a separate living room, a dining room, and an internal garage on the ground floor. On the first floor, there are seven bedrooms and four bathrooms.
The property is surrounded by a courtyard garden that leads to a grassy area and reaches the River Granta. These features, which beautifully connect with the surrounding nature, provide residents with a sense of privacy and tranquility.
The property is currently for sale by the widow and son of "Robert Williams", one of the founders of "Unipalm" (the first internet provider in the UK in 1992). Merrick says, "The history and architecture of this house feel like more than just an ordinary home and are somewhat part of the village's story." He also refers to the garden of the property, stating that its connection to the River Granta is special and appealing.
Being in a building of this age has given Merrick a greater appreciation for history and architecture than anywhere else. He adds, "This house is deeply rooted in the history of Linton, but it is also an interesting place to live."
Merrick is looking to sell the property so that he and his wife can move to the United States. He emphasizes that this sale is more of an opportunity to start a new chapter in their lives rather than a desire to part with the house.
