The predictions of Nostradamus (Michel de Nostredame), the 16th-century astronomer and seer, are once again in the spotlight. In his famous book, 'Les Propheties,' published in 1555, he alluded to significant events, and now some of his followers believe he warned about the dangers posed by artificial intelligence.
Disturbing Predictions
One of Nostradamus' quatrains, known as Century IV, Quatrain 31, states: 'The moon in the middle of the night over the high mountains, the new sage with a solitary mind sees it: at the invitation of his disciples for immortality, his eyes are turned to the south. Hands in embrace, bodies in flames.'
Some commentators have linked this text to artificial intelligence and autonomous computers, associating 'solitary mind' and 'immortal' with machine intelligence and mind uploading. Meanwhile, 'new sage' has also been interpreted as a reference to modern technologies.
Warnings from Technology Experts
These predictions have surged following statements from a whistleblower at the major AI company Anthropic. Jacob Coxon, a former researcher at the company, has stated that this dangerous technology could destroy humanity by 2030. He pointed out that while humanity knows how to control nuclear weapons, it is unable to manage artificial intelligence.
In this context, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, and Sam Altman, President of OpenAI, have emphasized the need to slow down the development of artificial intelligence. Additionally, Amodei announced that the company has managed to halt several potential plans for creating biological weapons using its software.
Concerns about artificial intelligence have become so serious that some scientists estimate the likelihood of humanity's destruction by this technology in the future to be 25 percent. Nick Szabo, a writer and researcher, has warned that these assessments have been significantly downplayed.
Ultimately, it must be said that the future of artificial intelligence and related predictions has always been a challenging and controversial topic. While Nostradamus and other seers have touched upon this subject, the realities of today's technology require serious attention and consideration from humanity.
