Miley, in this interview with Zane Lowe on the Apple Music podcast, referred to the details of her last conversation with Dolly and said, "I’m just trying to hold myself together, but when I spoke to her, it was the last time we talked. I told her about my new album." Miley recently released a new album titled "Bass Persuades" and recalls that Dolly was always the first person to receive a vinyl copy of her albums.
A Deep Musical Bond
Miley Cyrus strongly emphasized her musical bond with Dolly Parton, saying, "We are very different, but those differences bring us closer together. Dolly is recognized not only as an artist but as a real and authentic human being." She also noted that Dolly always advised her not to hold back tears during her performances, saying, "Music is an escape. Let them cry. You have to get through this."
Miley also recalled a moment when Dolly asked her during one of her performances on the Letterman show, "Why are you crying?" In response, Miley explained to Dolly that the song was about the end of the world and being away from her mother. Miley pointed out that Dolly was always right and guided her toward a deeper understanding of herself.

After the news of Dolly's passing, Miley wrote an emotional note for her grandmother, expressing, "The feeling of losing my aunt Dolly is more than I want to share. Our sacred moments were private and will remain behind the scenes and under the glitz."
She also added, "I know that Dolly wanted me to feel this, to write a song about her, to carry on, and to be strong. I will always have an angel by my side. One of our last conversations was about music and transformation. I will always love her and want to honor her."
In 2009, Dolly spoke about how she became Miley's grandmother, saying, "I have known her since she was a baby, and when she was born, her father said I should be her grandmother, and I agreed. We never had a big ceremony, but I am proud of her and love her."
