In 2011 or 2012, right after moving to Los Angeles, I was walking down one of the streets in downtown. Suddenly, black smoke billowed out from a manhole in the street. It seemed as if something was burning underground. This scene appeared strangely cinematic and terrifying, as if demons were emerging from that smoke.
Urban Wonders
These unexpected moments are among those strange experiences that occasionally occur in urban life. The feeling of surrender and release while photographing is very powerful for me. In such moments, I surrender to my ignorance and allow the world around me to draw me in.
I grew up in San Jose; a place that has no signs of real urban life. I decided to migrate to Los Angeles because I felt depressed there and had recently met my future wife, who also did not want to stay in San Jose. Los Angeles is more than just a city to me; it is a collection of different places. You can reach a completely different environment in just a 15-minute drive, from the beach to the mountains.
A City with a Soul
Los Angeles has a strange consciousness; if you allow it, this city can draw you in. I always have an inexplicable urge to drive and roam the streets. This sense of freedom and adventure motivates me to explore life in every corner of the city and enjoy every moment.
This image is a glimpse into a world where even black smoke can be a sign of beauty and wonder. Life in Los Angeles, with all its challenges and beauties, reminds me that every day is a new adventure.
